Interest in the state budget is increasing as the next legislative session approaches. Steve Norton talked about the state budget recently with the BIA’s Economic Development and Fiscal Policy Committee. You can find the presentation at http://bit.ly/6HP4xH. States across the country are also having these conversations.
Nationally known economist Mark Zandi gives his own intrepretation of state finances at: http://tinyurl.com/ylxtvfh noting that "states are going to have a huge hole beginning in 2011 when the current stimulus runs out. I suspect they’ll be cutting spending and raising taxes long before reaching that cliff. States have run out of budget tricks—various ways of managing through it. I don’t know if states have many more rabbits in the hat they can pull out."
There is also a new report from the Pew Center called "Beyond California: States in Fiscal Peril" New Hampshire is not on that list of nine states!
