Several blogs are pointing to this graph which shows US population by age group from 1950 to 2050. The Center has developed a similar graph for New Hampshire.
The data for the chart comes from the US Census, and the forecast from the New Hampshire Office of Energy and Planning.
One can clearly see how the dependent population has shifted. The working age population in earlier decades has been supporting school age and younger groups, but that will change in the future as the 'baby boomers' reach their retirement years.
The next chart comes from Health Care 101. You can download the full report at www.nhpolicy.org
